TDC Hosts Quality in Tourism Stakeholder Forum

     August 30th, 2016

Port-of-Spain, Trinidad:The Tourism Development Company hosted a Quality in Tourism Stakeholder Forum on Wednesday 24th August, 2016 at the Cara Suites Hotel and Conference Centre in Claxton Bay.

The Forum sought to address challenges faced by tourism operators interested in raising the standard and quality of their operations, due to the lack of understanding of the tourism industry in Trinidad and Tobago by organisations that provide critical support. In attendance were representatives from regional corporations, various government ministries, members of the Fire Service, taxi service providers, accommodation providers, restauranteurs, tour guides and community and eco-tourism groups. The public and private sector industry stakeholders worked together to identify strategies and develop solutions to overcome the challenges faced by tourism operators in the achievement of quality standards.

Participants were divided into multi-sectoral groups based on their industry and expertise and asked to provide an analysis of the challenges faced by the industry and to recommend potential solutions. These potential solutions were discussed at the forum, paving the way for the development of a working paper. The working paper would be used in the creation of a national tourism quality policy and supporting strategy that will provide a framework and direction for enhancing and maintaining the quality of the national tourism product.
