May 9th, 2016

The Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC), through the Trinidad and Tobago Convention Bureau (TTCB), hosted a cocktail reception and cultural evening for nine meeting planners from the United States.

The reception which formed part of the itinerary for a Meeting Planners Study Tour coordinated by the TTCB, was held on Wednesday 4th May, 2016 at the Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre. In attendance was the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe, Minister of Tourism, who welcomed the group to Trinidad and Tobago, along with several other tourism officials and industry stakeholders.

The group, which includes planners from Academic Experiences Abroad, Oregon; Morehouse College School of Medicine, Atlanta; the Flashcom Group, Chicago; Newton-Thoth Inc. International, Baltimore and the National Association of African American Studies, arrived in Trinidad on Monday 2nd May, 2016. As a part of the Study Tour, the nine participants were given the opportunity to visit several of the major meeting and accommodation facilities along with the various sites and attractions in both Trinidad and Tobago. The aim of the Study Tour was to promote all that Trinidad and Tobago has to offer in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) market and to encourage the participating planners to book Trinidad and Tobago as the host destination for their upcoming meetings and events.

During the cocktail event the planners were treated to an astounding cultural showcase which featured limbo by the Malick Folk Performers, pan virtuoso Darryl Reid, the Jyoti Sona East Indian Dance Group and extempo by the Lord Relator, who was also the Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s proceedings.

The Study Tour came as a follow up to the TTCB’s North American Road Show which took place in May, 2015. Some of the participating planners were identified as strong prospects for bringing business to Trinidad and Tobago and were attendees at the Road Show, which visited three cities; Atlanta, Washington DC and New York.
