Trinidad and Tobago hosts FAM Trip for influential Indian Journalists

The Tourism Development Company (TDC) recently hosted a Familiarisation Trip (FAM) for a group of prominent Indian journalists from May 7-14, as part of its on-going initiative to promote Trinidad and Tobago to the Indian market.  

 The writers spent 4 days in Trinidad before continuing on to Tobago where they spent 3 days, all making for a thrilling experience on the two islands. Delegates on the trip represented a cross-section of the Indian travel and lifestyle media, including Bedatri Choudhury who writes for Travel+Leisure India and South Asia, a leading high-end monthly travel publication, freelance journalist Preeti Lal Verma, whose articles have been published in all major Indian publications including: National Geographic, The Times India, The Economic Times and The Telegraph, among others, freelancer Rupali Dean, who was recently awarded as the “Best food writer in the country’, by the Indian Culinary Forum and has been featured among India’s Top 5 Food and travel bloggers in India.

 Other journalists represented A Man’s World, India’s first men’s luxury lifestyle magazine which caters to upwardly mobile and affluent men between 30 and 45 and Outlook Traveller, a monthly magazine with a circulation of over 90,000 across India.

 Strategically designed to provide a better understanding of our unique destination and match our product with our various customers, the FAM allowed the journalists to experience some of the islands’ popular eco and soft adventure tourism activities such as a “Trini River Lime” in Lopinot, snorkelling at Buccoo Reef, exploration of the Gasparee Caves, Temple in the Sea, Hanuman Murti and the Caroni Bird Sanctuary.

 In addition to experiencing the destination’s adventure offerings, the visiting journalists also got an opportunity to sample mouth-watering local foods at Chaud Restaurant in Trinidad and at Jemma’s Tree House and Sea Horse Inn Restaurant in Tobago.

 The TDC recently hosted a Carnival Press Trip for North American journalists – some of whose articles have already been published and featured on the company’s social media channels - and will be hosting a Golf FAM Trip for Scandinavian tour operators and journalists in June.

 “Educating travel influencers and sellers by exposing them to the nuances of Trinidad & Tobago forms a crucial part of the TDC’s strategy for positioning the destination as a viable vacation option for travellers with diverse needs,” noted Warren Solomon, General Manager, Marketing. “Writers, bloggers and producers of other media content provide a credible source of information for people planning a vacation and hosting these types of press visits allows the destination to form that bond with their readers, followers and viewers,” he continued.
