2016 Children’s Essay Competition – Deadline Extended

21st June, 2016

The deadline for the local submission of essays for the 2016 Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Children’s Essay Competition has been extended to Wednesday 6th July, 2016 at 12 noon.

The competition; facilitated by the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Tobago House of Assembly (THA) and the FCCA; is open to students up to 16 years of age and will require students to write a five hundred (500) word essay based on the topic “If you were a cruise passenger, what would you want to see and do in your destination?”

The aim of the competition is to expose the nation’s youth to the local and global cruise industry and to the many benefits of the industry to the overall economy.

Winning essays at the local round of the competition will represent Trinidad and Tobago at the final round of the competition. The submissions will be judged against entries from other Caribbean islands by the FCCA’s Selection Committee, for a chance to win the top prize of US$3,000. In addition to the cash prizes, successful students will have the opportunity to be a part of a site visit on board one of the cruise ships that visit the port of Port of Spain during the local cruise season.
