TDC hosts Symposium for Tour Operators and Online Travel Agents

The Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) will host representatives from some of the biggest names in the international travel industry from October 09-14 as part of a Symposium for Tour Operators and Online Travel Agents (OTAs) from the United States and the United Kingdom. The programme begins in Tobago from October 09-11, and continues in Trinidad from October 11-14.

Delegates will be representing international companies such as Expedia, Booking.com, Regatta Travel Solutions, TripAdvisor, Mot Mot Travel and Reef and Rainforest Tours. In all, a total of 17 tour operators will be on hand - 12 from the US and 5 from the UK - to network and negotiate with local tourism stakeholders.

Designed to attract key leisure and niche tour operators, the Symposium will provide a forum for the international companies, to meet and interact with stakeholders from the hospitality, transportation and tour operating segments with a view to establishing marketing campaigns, while at the same time strengthening the Trinidad & Tobago brand in the international market.

The travel company representatives would also take the opportunity to visit hotels on both islands, as well as some of the exciting sites and attractions so that they could create and enhance their T&T travel packages.  The Symposium is also expected to achieve the following objectives:

Strengthen the capacity of local hotels, tour operators and Destination Management Companies (DMCs) to become more competitive in the international travel market.

  • Increase the number of hotels and tours/activities sold by these travel companies.
  • Facilitate ongoing discussions and create a platform for the development of new partnerships.
  • Match niche tour operators with specific hotels and DMCs from Trinidad & Tobago, so that travel packages being offered to international consumers are in line with the destination’s product offerings.
  • Raise the profile of the destination to international tour operators, OTAs and consumers.

“Hosting respected travel companies such as Expedia, TripAdvisor and Booking.com brings the destination closer to their massive consumer base”, remarked Warren Solomon, acting CEO at the TDC. “We also invited tour operators who specialize in adventure travel, birding and eco vacations and culture and heritage travel, so that we could be more focused in our targeting. Trinidad & Tobago is not the typical Caribbean destination with a sun, sea and sand product and it is important that we speak to the type of traveller that seeks out the experiences that we have to offer”, he ended.

The Tour Operator Symposium closely follows the recently concluded Society of American Travel Writers Freelance Council Meeting (SATW) which was hosted by the TDC and forms part of the company’s continued efforts to increase awareness of Destination Trinidad & Tobago in North America and the UK.
