More Tourism Training for 2010
Continuing to support tourism and hospitality related businesses and associations through cutting edge workshops and programmes, the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) is expanding its training calendar in 2010. Under the TDC’s Small Tourism Enterprise Project (STEP), stakeholders receive professional training and internationally recognized certification, which serves to improve how they manage their operations. The workshops are part of the TDC’s thrust to enhance the quality of Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism products and services.
Over the course of January to March 2010, several workshops were hosted in Trinidad, and Tobago. Sessions in “Association Management”, aimed at strengthening the management capacity of industry associations, were hosted for the Tobago Hospitality and Tour Operators Association, and the Trinidad and Tobago Tourist Transport Services (TTTTS). The workshops covered a range of topics, from communications and finance management to strategic planning and mobilizing external funds.
“It is an excellent programme and opened our eyes to how an association should function and be managed,” said Sydney Valere, President of the TTTTS, commenting on training held from March 8-11. “We are going to apply some things almost immediately.”
Earlier this year, the TDC launched “The Knowledge” sessions – a series of lectures on historical sites for the Trinidad and Tobago Tour Guides Association. These sessions aim to ensure that tour guides disseminate accurate social and historical data to tourists. Underscoring the importance of a service mentality, sessions in “Superior Customer Service” were also hosted for the Small Tourism Accommodation Owners of Trinidad and Tobago, the Tobago Hospitality and Tour Operators Association, the Association of Dive Operators, the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association, and the Bed and Breakfast Association (Tobago).
Confirmed workshops for the rest of the year include Breakfast Preparation in April, Record Keeping and Business Management in June, and Marketing and Promotion in May, July and September. For further information on training, you can contact TDC’s STEP Coordinator, Belinda Charles, at 675-7034 or bcharles@tdc.co.tt.
