Ayoung Chee joins forces with TDC to promote T&T
Rising fashion star Anya Ayoung Chee has already brought pride and recognition to Trinidad and Tobago with her triumph on the last season of Project Runway, the popular reality television show that boosts the careers of lesser-known designers.
Now Ayoung Chee is using her newfound fame to draw even more attention to the country of her birth. The former beauty queen has agreed to help the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) promote the unique talents and experiences visitors can find in Trinidad and Tobago.
“There is a very high diaspora in New York and other parts of North America, so you find that she will be well known in that area and she can assist the TDC in promoting Trinidad and Tobago in the North American market,” said Minister of Tourism Dr the Honourable Rupert T. Griffith.
During the just-concluded Carnival celebrations, Ayoung Chee welcomed six international journalists, specially invited by the TDC and the Tobago House of Assembly, into the beautiful section she specially designed for mas band Tribe’s 2012 presentation, “Take Me to ...” She was part of the function welcoming the media guests on Carnival Saturday at the National Carnival Commission’s VIP booth in the Queen’s Park Savannah.
At the much-anticipated Tobago Fashion Week later this year, Ayoung Chee will host a segment about the week on the Caribbean Passport television digest.
“Anya Ayoung Chee is only one example of how the creativity comes out in the Caribbean. Trinidadians are very creative people and creativity is shown in every aspect of our being,” said Mrs. Sandra Perkins, Chief Executive Officer of the TDC.
Taking advantage of her extensive social network following, Ayoung Chee will post on Facebook and Twitter about her favourite activities and sites in Trinidad and Tobago and promote upcoming attractions on the islands.
She will attend a range of upcoming promotional events, including the Tobago Jazz Festival in April, the Tobago Underwater Carnival in July, the Caribbean Tourism Organisation Week in June 2012, the World Travel Market in November and Caribbean Fashion Week on a date yet to be determined.
Other than her personal involvement, Ayoung Chee’s image will be used as part of the campaign to promote Trinidad and Tobago as a place of talent and beauty.
