TDC sponsors inaugural PowerPlay T20 Cricket
In line with a proactive and aggressive mandate to develop the sport tourism niche, the Tourism Development Company was a proud co-sponsor of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) PowerPlay T20 franchise tournament which ended on Sunday, June 24th.
Sport Tourism Coordinator Kairon Serrette, delivering remarks on behalf of the TDC Chairman Rajiv O.M. Shandilya, said “TDCrsquo;s Sport Tourism Department is actively leading the development of sport tourism initiatives, while driving the marketing of this niche in major source markets; all in an effort to increase Trinidad and Tobago’s ability to attract and host world class sport events.”
Serette also noted that the TDC continues to meet with local sport stakeholders to develop the synergies between the tourism sector and local sporting organisations, and was pleased to be afforded an opportunity to partner with the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board, the Queen’s Park Cricket Club and the Triniposse Group in an effort to raise the level of awareness of our destination in the world Sport Tourism sector.
“We recognise that sport is a unifying force, with the potential to impart priceless economic, social and cultural benefits to our society. Our sportsmen and athletes are not only bestowed with physical prowess and talent, but also with the largely untapped potential to be agents and advocates for our tourism product,” he added.
The tournament ended with the Petrotrin cricket team taking away the first prize of TT$30,000 in the inaugural tournament.
