August 4, 2008 – Continuing its local awareness campaign to cultivate an appreciation for Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism industry, the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC), in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism, will host a new tourism awareness programme – “T&T Road Trip” from August 8-30, 2008 on weekends only at various malls from 1-6 p.m.
Taking place on Fridays and Saturdays – with the exception of Movie Towne, which will run over Saturday and Sunday – “T&T Roadtrip” will visit popular malls on the following dates:
- Trincity Mall – August 8-9.
- Mid Centre Mall – August 15-16.
- Movietowne - August 23-24.
- Gulf City Mall – August 29-30.
Packaged in the format of mobile tourism fairs, “T&T Road Trip” is conceived as an educational and entertainment programme that will cultivate an appreciation for the tourism industry in the future stakeholders of the tourism industry – the youth. Specifically targeting teenagers between the ages of 13 to 18 years, it also aims to educate the population about several tourist-related activities, sites and career opportunities. While “T&T Road Trip” is a project of a much smaller scale than Tourism Park, the objective is the same – to increase awareness about Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism product.
Activities
“T&T Road Trip” fairs will feature:
- Booth displays.
- Interactive media displays
- Career sessions
- Live entertainment
- Roving petting zoo.
- Tours – people can sign up for tours at the malls.

Talented teenagers (13-18 years) are also invited to showcase their talent in the “T&T Got’s Talent” competition, a tourism rhythm, rap and rhyme competition, which involves them singing, rapping, or rhyming about tourism – as a career or as an industry – over a track produced by one of the country's top music samplers. Popular DJs will host live, call-in segments on radio stations such as Red 96.7 FM, 96.7 WEFM, and 103.1 FM, and select competitors who will compete at the malls.
