Tourism Satellite Account focus of TDC's Business Forum

Minister of Tourism the Honourable Joseph Ross will deliver the keynote address at “The Economic Impact of Tourism – the Trinidad and Tobago Context” the second in a series of business forums hosted by the Tourism Development Company Ltd (TDC).

Scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad from 8.45 am, the forum is aimed at informing stakeholders, officials and the business community about the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) Project and its relevance to the development of local tourism. A method for estimating recreation and tourism related spending; TSAs are primarily used to give an overall aggregate estimate of tourism’s contribution to national economies (i.e. Gross Domestic Product).

Making presentations at the event will be two industry experts, Mr Jean Claude Baumgarten, President of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and Professor Eddie Friel OBE, “Expert in Residence” at the Hospitality and Research Centre at Niagara University, New York.

Both presenters can boast long and distinguished careers in tourism, private and public sectors and will share keen insights on the tourism industry.

Positioning Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism industry as a major contributor to the national GDP, and stimulating development and growth, are key elements in Government’s Vision 2020 goals for the sector. The successful implementation of a TSA is an important step towards achieving these goals.

To learn more about the forum, or the TSA Project, contact the Public Affairs Department at 675-7034.
