Local Bed and Breakfast Operators receive First Aid Certification
Twenty Bed and Breakfast Operators received first aid training, facilitated by the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Services, as part of an ongoing drive by the Tourism Development Company (TDC) to ensure small accommodation providers are certified under national tourism standards.
The TDC, through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), currently certifies Bed and Breakfast visitor accommodation in accordance with the Trinidad and Tobago Tourism Industry Certification (TTTIC). First Aid training, backed by valid certification, is one of the requirements for Bed and Breakfast operators under TTTIC.
To assist small accommodation providers in fulfilling the necessary requirements to qualify for TTTIC certification, the TDC is coordinating training for operators who require it. The four-day First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Workshop, held from October 5 to 8 at the TDC’s Barataria head office, provided Bed and Breakfast operators with the necessary training and techniques required for first aid certification. Topics covered during the training included, First Aid and the Law; Breathing Problems; Wounds; Bleeding; and the Aims and Responsibilities of First Aid.
Operators who passed the final exam, administered at the end of the training session, were awarded with a certificate.
Introduced in 2001 as a national quality assurance tool for the tourism industry, TTTIC is jointly executed by the TDC, TTBS and the Department of Tourism and Transport of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
Tour Guides, Tour Operators, Short Term Motor Vehicle Rental Operations, Tourist Land Transport Service Providers, Hotels, Guest Houses, Bed and Breakfast and Self-Catering Facilities are currently embraced by the TTTIC programme.
