International Training for Tobago's Restaurant Servers
Fourteen persons employed in Tobago’s restaurant industry recently benefited from a five-day workshop aimed at elevating the level of professionalism in the local food and beverage sector.
Hosted in collaboration with the Tourism Development Company (TDC) and Tobago House of Assembly (THA), the Restaurant Server Workshop was held from October 12 to 17 at the Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute. A Small Tourism Enterprises Project (STEP) programme, the workshop was initially scheduled for five days, however, it was extended due to the enthusiastic response from participants.
Drawing on international best practice and adult learning methodologies, the programme was designed to directly impact the tourism industry by elevating the professionalism of employees in Trinidad and Tobago’s food service sector.
Conducted in accordance with standards set by the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA), the highly participative programme covered topics such as performance, practical hospitality skills, restaurant and bar equipment and the role of hospitality staff in the food service sector.
In addition to being armed with the necessary confidence to perform as key players in the hospitality industry, participants who successfully pass the exam administered at the end of the programme will be awarded internationally recognised certification from the AH&LA.
