Splash! New design for Maracas Beach resort
The Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) has engaged the services of a prominent local engineering consulting firm, Lee Young and Partners, Consulting Engineers and Project Managers, to design a restoration action and operational plan for Maracas Beach and its facilities. This undertaking will create an environmentally-sustainable, aesthetically-pleasing, modern, safe, clean, and effectively-managed attraction of international standard.
TDC's vision for Maracas Beach is to create an "internationally competitive resort" which is in keeping with the Company's firm commitment to upgrading and improving the overall standard of the tourism product of Trinidad and Tobago . By insisting on excellence, the country will be able to effectively compete in the international market. The design works will include a comprehensive beach facility with a rehabilitated car park, central vending facility, new sewerage and drainage facilities, realignment of the North Coast Road and reconstruction of the sand barriers.
Lee Young and Partners has had a long history with Maracas and this was reflected in a superior proposal submitted as part of a public tender exercise utilised by the TDC to secure the required services. This consultancy is expected to be completed in about five months' time, after which construction work will begin. The project will be done in consultation with various stakeholders including: the Ministry of Tourism, the EMA, Town and Country Planning, Ministry of Public Utilities, the Institute of Marine Affairs , Maracas Community Council, the Maracas Vendors Association and many others.
