TDC Encourages Locals to Explore Vacation Options At Home

The Tourism Development Company’s (TDC), domestic campaign “Stay to get Away” has been increasing awareness of Trinidad and Tobago’s numerous vacation spots. The campaign aims to encourage locals to explore these locations during the July to August vacation period.

Weekend, hotel packages with special discounts are advertised, while additional advertisements promote Trinidad and Tobago’s unique sites and attractions such as the Pitch Lake, Las Cuevas Beach, Brasso Seco and Grande Riviere. TDC’s objectives are to spark the interest of all citizens, including adventure seekers.

In a strategic move, the domestic campaign coincides with TDC’s regional campaign, which also features discounted, weekend hotel packages, and promotes Trinidad and Tobago as an ideal destination for shopping, nightlife activities and leisure activities. These promotions are showcased in Guyana, Suriname, Barbados, St. Lucia, Grenada, and Antigua. “Weekends are usually low periods for our hotels, which are generally filled during the week with business visitors, so this campaign is intended to help boost the hotels’ occupancy during these periods”, said Dr. James Hepple, President and Director of Tourism – TDC.

“We’re paying special attention to our Caribbean neighbours as a viable and valuable market,” he added. “By virtue of the fact that Trinidad and Tobago is such a unique destination, as compared to the rest of the region, we are already positioned to be an attractive destination for the regional market.”

“We’re also showing people that vacationing in your own country is a desirable option,” said Dr. Hepple “T&T has competitive weekend, hotel packages and many attractions. Our objective is to encourage locals, who would otherwise funnel dollars outside Trinidad and Tobago, to stay at home and discover the many vacation options that attract thousands of foreigners each year.

The TDC, formed in May 2005, is the agency responsible for the development and promotion of Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism product. The TDC’s primary aim is to aggressively market Trinidad and Tobago as a unique tourist destination.
