Environmental campaign - Let's Clean Up & Green Up T&T

Encouraging citizens to take a more pro-active role in caring for the environment, the Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) launched “Let’s Clean Up & Green Up Trinidad and Tobago” – an environmental awareness campaign – in January 2008. Piloted by TDC, the launch was held in conjunction with the Port of Spain City Corporation at the Brian Lara Promenade Roundabout, Port of Spain.
The aim of this campaign is to sensitise citizens to the importance of maintaining a cleanly environment, as this helps to enhance Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism product. “Let’s Clean Up & Green Up T&T” intends to raise awareness about the negative impact that unsanitary behaviour has on the environment, and to encourage and reinforce more positive behaviour – encouraging people to inculcate these habits into their daily lives by taking responsibility for their actions. Positive behaviour involves small steps such as not littering, cleaning up public places, and caring for and protecting our environment.
The Let’s Clean Up & Green Up T&T project includes:
- A media campaign including print, radio and TV advertising;
- Quarterly clean up activities at varying locations such as a city, beach, or tourism site. These activities will be implemented with assistance from partnering agencies, stakeholders and other groups.
- Distribution of bins, signage and other collateral material done in conjunction with other sponsors.
Mandated to develop and market Trinidad and Tobago’s tourism product, and to improve the local tourism sector, the TDC recognises how much value a clean environment adds to tourism and that the success of the tourism industry lies in the preservation of our natural resources, and the cleanliness of our environment. “Let’s Clean Up & Green Up Trinidad and Tobago” is a sustained project, which is being undertaken in conjunction with other stakeholders.
