Shaping the future of Trinidad and Tobago’s Meeting and Convention Business

MINISTER OF TOURISM the Honourable Joseph Ross will deliver the keynote address at “Shaping the future of Trinidad and Tobago’s Meeting and Convention Business,” the first in a series of business forums hosted by the Tourism Development Company on Wednesday, January 21.

Addressing the requirements necessary to position Trinidad and Tobago as the top meeting and conference destination in the region, the forum is aimed at informing and preparing tourism stakeholders, and members of the business community, for the establishment of a local Convention Bureau.

Also speaking at the event will be Mr Paul Flackett, Managing Director of IMEX – one of the largest influential meeting and incentive trade shows – and Mr Rick Taylor, former CEO of the Cape Town Convention Bureau. Mr Taylor is credited with establishing Cape Town, South Africa, as one of the top international destinations for meetings and conventions.

The positioning of Port of Spain as the Meetings and Conventions Capital of the Southern Caribbean and “Culture Capital” of the region is one of the key elements of Government’s Vision 2020 goals for the Tourism industry. The successful establishment of a Convention Bureau is as an important step towards achieving these goals.
