Total Stopover visitors to Trinidad and Tobago declined by 2.7% in 2008, slightly more than the 2.5% contraction which occurred in 2007. Arrivals into Trinidad significantly buffered the total figures in light of Tobago experiencing its largest contraction to date in the magnitude of a 40% decline. This significant decline in arrivals to Tobago is attributed to the 45.2% decline in leisure visitors to the island from 49,720 in 2007 to 27,231 in 2008. Business travellers to the island also declined significantly by 53.5% with only 1,015 business arrivals in 2008 compared to 2,183 in 2007.
