Tourism Awareness

In 2006 the TDC launched a national tourism awareness programme entitled Tourism is Going Places. Designed to raise awareness and understanding on the importance of tourism to the local economy among members of the public, media, stakeholders and opinion leaders, the programme includes seminars, business forums, media campaigns and televised documentary productions. The TDC believes that the education of local communities, information sharing and cooperation among stakeholders will generate a cohesive programme of awareness and a better appreciation of the industry as a whole.

Media campaigns, networking and information exchange, research and advocacy are all part of the TDC ’s Strategic Plan to develop the awareness of all industry stakeholders. School lecture tours, career fairs and essay competitions are also some of the initiatives utilised to raise awareness among children and young people about tourism and to build national pride.

To increase awareness of the Tourism Industry, the many career options available and major developments in the sector, the TDC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, has embarked on a schools outreach programme. Visiting schools, both primary and secondary, throughout the country during the academic term, the programme includes informative and entertaining presentations on the role of various organisations in Trinidad and Tobago's tourism industry, dramatic presentations, quizzes and giveaways.

Should you require more information or wish to request our attendance at a career fair, or to make a class presentation, kindly contact the TDC at 675-7034 or fax your request to 675-7722.

    • Other Activities
In addition to school tours, other initiatives aimed at increasing awareness of the tourism industry among Trinidad and Tobago's young people include, essay and poster competitions, such as the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association Schools Essay Contest. Interactive events such as Tourism Park and the T&T Road Trip provide exciting tourism-focused experiences aimed at highlighting key elements of the local tourism industry, including adventure tourism, careers, sport, festivals and ecotourism.
